Sunshine Blogger Award

A couple of weeks back, Diana, former gymnast, travel enthusiast and entertaining author of the blog, “Handstands Around the World” nominated us for our first award, the Sunshine Blogger Award! It is an award exchanged among bloggers for those who are “are positive and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”. We were honored to be recognized and truly hope that our story may serve to show others that it is possible to make your dreams a reality! And please go read Diana’s blog – we promise you won’t regret reading this Montana woman’s smart and detailed accounts of her travels.

Rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the eleven questions set by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate eleven other blogs and give them eleven questions to answer.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.

Our answers to Diana’s questions:

  1. What is your favorite place you’ve ever been?

Glacier National Park. It was like a whole other world, a bigger and more breathtaking alpine climate than we’d ever seen, with so many places to explore. It truly feels like you are in The Sound of Music, and our campsite was the best we’ve ever had. We can’t wait to go back!

2. What is your earliest memory?

Katie: Probably my 3rd birthday party. I remember getting ready for it, loving all the balloons around my house and getting The Little Mermaid on VHS, haha.

John: My little sister being born when he was 5.

3. Favorite food?

Katie: The Thai dish drunken noodles. The flavors and spice are just perfect and the wide, soft noodles make it the best comfort food.

John: It was the salted caramel bacon sweet potato fries we had in White Sulphur Springs, MT – amazing and surprising to find there!

4. I’m very movie deprived. What would be your #1 movie rec for me?

We’ve been quoting “Lost in America” a lot lately since it is an ’80s comedy about a couple who quits their jobs and buys an RV. A little off beat, but entertaining!

5. Trains, planes, or automobiles?

Definitely either trains or cars. We’ve loved seeing the US from the road and John took an awesome train trip as a teenager that we’ve talked about replicating! Trains give you some really unique scenery and take you into the heart of cities, while cars are better for seeing nature and smaller cities, especially with a trailer in tow!

6. What was your most awkward moment (that you feel comfortable sharing)?

When we camped at Devil’s Tower, John pointed and shouted to me from across the campground because he thought he saw a deer walking amazingly close to another guy. I, being closer but not looking too closely, started snapping pictures as I had the DSLR on me. I eventually realized that he was just walking his really large dog and quickly ducked into the restrooms to pretend like nothing happened…

7. Favorite subject in school?

Art for Katie, History for John.

8. Coffee or tea?

John’s a black coffee kind of guy and I love both in every form (even though both sadly give me some acid reflux these days so they’re more of a treat now).

9. What is your most irrational fear?

Katie: A fear of heights still gets me more than it should, though I am getting a lot better with the hikes we’ve been doing lately!

John: I’m always paranoid that I left the door unlocked.

10. How many countries have you visited?

Only Canada for Katie, Canada and Mexico for John. We hope to grow that number after we conquer the U.S.!

11. What is one important lesson you’ve learned in your travels?

Just the fact that we were able to set ourselves up to take an extended honeymoon, let alone figure out the logistics of living on the road, showed us that it is possible to accomplish even high goals and really get the  most out of life!

Our blog nominations:
